The Injuries Are Piling Up
Takeaways, Waivers, Star Wars, and more!
Sick and tired of NFL teams not being truthful about the health of their star athletes? What about the state of injuries in general? I know we say this every year but this year seems to be worse than usual.
I'm sure we'll say the same thing next year. Anyways, time to sort of the first two weeks of the NFL season and get you prepped to dominate Week 3 and beyond.
Let's get you caught up on what's happening across the RotoPass bundle. Expect these emails to highlight unique pieces of content and tools that are designed to make you a more effective fantasy football manager.
Fantasy Life —> Week 2 Takeaways
Before one can move forward, one must first understand where he came from. That's exactly what Pete Overzet helps us do with his Week 2 Fantasy Football Takeaways.
One data point (game) makes a dot. Two data points (games) make a line. Three data points (games) make a trend. We're so close to getting that third game and we're starting to see some trends emerge.
Takeaway #1: The Elite rookies are who we thought they were
A week ago at this time, we were clowning "Mazda" Marvin Harrison (4th overall pick) for running like a 45-year-old dad in New Balances, cursing Daniel Jones for submarining Malik Nabers' (6th overall pick) value, and lamenting a low ceiling for Brock Bowers (13th overall pick) in a sluggish Raiders offense.
How quickly things change.
Maserati Marv went nuclear against the Rams on Sunday. He put up 130 yards and 2 TDs against an overwhelmed Rams secondary … in the first quarter. Oh, and if you were worried about his speed, MHJ reached 20.03 mph on his 60-yard TD.
Nabers put the entire Giants offense on his back with a laugh-out-loud-worthy target share (62%). He finished the game with 10-127-1 and a gaudy 18 targets. He is a straight-up alpha.
Bowers didn't find the end zone yesterday, but posted 9 catches for 98 yards. His stats through two career games (17 targets, 15 receptions, 156 receiving yards) put him in rarefied air. He's an auto-start the rest of the way.
A lot of people balked at the ADPs for these guys in 2024 drafts. Yesterday was a good reminder that the transition to the NFL isn't difficult for superstars.
Now that you’ve caught up with all of Pete’s notes from Week 2, you can compare those takeaways to Fantasy Life’s premium weekly rankings.
4for4 —> Week 3 Waivers
So continues the weekly exercise of churning through waivers to find replacements for injured stars and uninspiring flex options.
Matt Okada breaks down the must-adds and stash-worthy options in his Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Watch Week 3.
How should you approach Demarcus Robinson and Tyler Johnson? Are big games from Quentin Johnston and Braelon Allen a one-off or a sign of things to come?
Make sure to give this piece a read before making any waiver claims on Tuesday night.
Footballguys —> Dynasty News
Player values certainly fluctuate from week to week in traditional redraft formats but that doesn't mean the dynasty community is immune to weekly value swings.
Jeff Tefertiller is here to break down some dynasty news in his Week 3 Dynasty News piece. Have we seen the last of Tua Tagovailoa? How much value does Christian McCaffrey have left? Is the season over for Isiah Pacheco?
Stay up-to-date in the ever-changing dynasty landscape with Jeff's in-depth, actionable content.
RotoViz —> The Rookie Receivers Strike Back
Who doesn't love a good Star Wars-themed breakdown of the latest trends and insights across the fantasy landscape?
Kevin Szafraniec provides some levity to another stressful weekend of fantasy football with his Week 2 Review.
Some highlights include:
The Force Awakens (rookie wideouts)
A New Hope (second-year breakouts)
The Phantom Menace (injuries, why?)
The Death Star (looking at you, Dennis Allen)
Looking to Week 3
Guess what? The first bye week is only a couple of weeks away.
That's right, in Week 5 we will have our first slate of teams enjoying their extra rest. That means you better start making preparations for how you'll replace those stars by way of waivers or trades.
Let us help you get a jump start on the rest of your league.
